Kwesi Anaman-Tetteh

betting writer, Ghana · Sekondi-Takoradi

Kwesi Anaman-Tetteh lives in Effia-Kuma, Sekondi-Takoradi. He took an HND in accountancy at Takoradi Polytechnic in 2009 and spent five years as an accounts clerk at a haulage firm on the harbour run, then three years behind the counter of a betting shop on Market Circle: paying out coupons, explaining settlement, arguing about void legs.

The counter is where the writing started. In 2016 a customer brought in a winning coupon and the payout came to less than the slip said, because one leg had been voided and the whole price recalculated. Nobody in the shop could point to the rule. He wrote that rule down, then the next one, and within a year the shop was borrowing his notebook. He has been writing about bookmakers since 2017.

How the figures are checked

Bonus figures come from the operator's own promotion page and from the bonus rules, both with the date they were read, because the banner and the rules disagree more often than not. Wagering and expiry are taken from the rules text rather than from the banner. Licence numbers are checked against the Gaming Commission of Ghana. Where the operator's own two pages give different numbers, the page prints both and says which page said what. Where the operator publishes nothing, the page says there is no data instead of borrowing a figure from another country. No tips, no odds, no staking plans.
